BYU 44th Annual Harold A. Cedartree Memorial Pow Wow will be held on Friday and Saturday, March 28th and 29th of 2025.

A Pow Wow is a vibrant celebration of Native American culture, featuring traditional dance, music, and drumming. It brings together communities to honor heritage, share stories, and showcase Native American art, clothing, and crafts. With colorful dances and a spirit of unity, a Pow Wow is a lively and meaningful event that fosters connection and cultural pride.

Vendor Registration

Vendor applications will open on January 20th, 2025 via link.
Fees are as follows:

- 1 table space of 8ft x 6ft. Includes one table, two chairs, and two general admission tickets for both days of Pow Wow. Fee of $125.

- 2 tables space of 16ft x 6ft. Includes two tables, four chairs, and four general admission tickets for both days of Pow Wow. Fee of $210.

- All payment must be received in order to confirm space.

- We will not be accepting any paper applications. All table space will be reserved online until spaces run out.

Please note, Brigham Young University (BYU) places certain restrictions on the displaying, selling or taking orders for merchandise on the BYU Campus by third party vendors. You should be aware of the following policies:

- The vendor is responsible for displaying, selling, and collecting payment for the sale of their merchandise.

- The vendor will be responsible for collecting and paying the appropriate sales tax.

- Security for merchandise is the responsibility of the sponsoring entity and the vendor.

- BYU and its associated entities will not be held responsible for theft of merchandise.

- Vendor is required to provide insurance coverages and endorsements.

Dancers and Drummer’s Registration

Registration will open by February 1st, 2025 via link.

Fees are as follows:

- Competing dancer fee is $6.00 which includes both days of Pow Wow.

- Competing drumming groups fee is $45 (up to 10 participants) which includes both days of Pow Wow.

- If not competing, please purchase a general entry ticket and check in on the day of Pow Wow.

General Entry ticket link will go live by February 1st, 2025.
- $6.00 per day

- Current BYU students (with ID), children under 10, and elders (56 plus with ID) are free if not competing. If competing, must pay dancer/ drumming fee.

- Men’s Duck’N Dive
- Head Man Special- TBD
- Head Lady Special- TBD

The Hoop Dance exhibition will be held on Friday, March 28th.

Other

- Cake Walk will be held on Saturday. No cash will be accepted. Payment will be through QR code on day of the event.
- There will be some performances by current BYU students on Saturday at the Terrace.

Pow Wow Etiquette

Pow Wow is a Native American gathering that involves dancing, singing, vendors, and food. It is not a performance, but a set of competitions which provide an opportunity for the community to gather and for others to learn about the enriching culture of Native Americans. There is no formal dress code.

Below, we have outlined proper etiquette for those who have come to watch or volunteer:

Do

  • Remove your hat and stand up during Grand Entry, Flag Songs, Invocation, Memorial, Veteran Songs, and Closing Songs.
  • Respect others, especially elders.
  • Listen to the Emcee as he will provide important information throughout the Pow Wow.
  • Participate in the Inter-tribal dance if you would like.
  • Go around the dance arena to get to the other side.

Don’t

  • Call outfits or regalia, costumes.
  • Touch a dancer’s regalia.
  • Take pictures or videos of individuals without their consent.
  • Mock or make unsensitive jokes.
  • Go through the middle of the dance arena.
  • No alcohol, drugs, or smoking allowed in any of the University premises.

Planning ahead: 2026 Pow Wow is planned for Friday and Saturday, March 27th and 28th.

Food

- BYU Cougareat will be available for food purchases on both Friday and Saturday.
- Indian Tacos will be available on Saturday only starting at 2pm until supplies last.
