Personal Bio:
Yvette Rivera is an advisor in the Multicultural Student Services office. She completed a Bachelor’s degree in Marriage & Family with an emphasis in Human Development at BYU. After teaching in Taiwan, she pursued a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education and most recently completed a Master’s degree in Spanish Pedagogy. Yvette has spent her career in a variety of teaching contexts with a focus on teaching Spanish. She has advocated for diverse students by instructing pre-service teachers on how to teach culture authentically as well as highlighting best practices for teaching literacy to native Spanish speakers. Having been raised by a single mom with financial stressors, the urgency to get a formal education was instilled in her. Her academic pursuits have opened up opportunities for service and given her strength amidst heavy life trials. Yvette desires to share these convictions with students and provide them with the support they need to get through the challenges associated with pursuing a higher education. Yvette and her husband Victor enjoy taking care of their garden, visiting family in LA, and having picnics in the park.
