Personal Bio:
I grew up in the Orem/Provo, Utah area and Houston, Texas. I served a mission in Eugene, Oregon. I began my higher education at Utah Valley University (UVU) studying Humanities and Art. I met my wife while we both worked in the photofinishing industry. She studied graphic design, illustration, interior design, photography, and production design at BYU. We married in 2000. I graduated with an associate degree from UVU and transferred to BYU where I studied Humanities with a History Emphasis focusing on classical studies, art history, photography, and cinema. As an undergraduate, I also worked for the Harold B. Lee Library, L. Tom Perry Special Collections preparing 19th and 20th-century publications, artwork, photographs, and film items for online access.
After graduating from BYU, I earned a master’s degree in history, specializing in film history, theory, and criticism with a sub-emphasis in Greek and Roman history, at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and completed my graduate internship for the University of Nebraska Medical Center, McGoogan Library of Medicine, Special Collections working on their photographic collections.
In 2008 I attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison briefly as a Ph.D. student in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication researching film history, theory, and criticism and working as an assistant archivist and researcher for the Wisconsin State Historical Society. I decided to return to BYU as a graduate student for the Military Chaplaincy program to study theology and pastoral counseling while serving in the United States Army Reserve as a Second Lieutenant, Staff Specialist for the 807th Medical Command, Fort Douglas, Salt Lake City, Utah.
From 2011-2026, I worked at BYU-Idaho as an administrator and advised students in STEM, liberal arts, and fine arts. In addition, I taught humanities, art, and theatre courses. I also selected films, presented, and directed the BYU-Idaho International Cinema from 2013-2026.
My wife and I have eight children (one son and seven daughters), and we love teaching them and spending time with them. We love BYU and I am happy to be back home!
