Personal Bio:
My name is Jose Meza-Leon, and I am from Los Angeles, California. I grew up listening to hip hop music and love watching inspiring movies that are based on or inspired by true events. My parents are originally from Guatemala, and I had the privilege of moving out there for a year prior to serving a fulltime mission in Mexico. During my time outside of the U.S. I realized how much I love learning about other cultures, languages, and religions. After serving a mission I went to BYU-Idaho and received a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts majoring in International Relations. This led me to work with immigrant populations in Utah in helping them navigate barriers and advocating for their human rights, educational opportunities, and professional endeavors. I had the opportunity to direct a grant initiative in 2025 for this special work in the community that has changed the lives of many of God’s children. As a private citizen this inspired me to be involved with other community leaders in passing and revising two pieces of legislation that created greater educational access to immigrant students in Utah.

I am an aspiring immigration lawyer, and the gospel of Jesus Christ is everything to me. Boxing is a special sport to me because of the champion mentality, grit, and resilience. I practiced a little at the amateur level in the past and I also love soccer, especially rooting for the underdogs and watching the World Cups. One of my favorite activities is going to the movies and then breaking down the music, the plot, the acting, and direction because some movies are cinematic and amazing. Everyone around me knows my love language is spending quality time with my wife, family, and friends!
