Xpeditions FAQ

  • I see four college preparation programs offered.  As an 8th grader, why do I specifically have to register for Xpeditions?

Each program is designed to address the circumstances and challenges that students will face in their current grade. Each program is also designed to target the steps that you should begin taking at each grade level to effectively prepare for college.

  • If I attended Xpeditions this year, can I attend Foundations next year?

Yes!  We hope that you are able to attend Xpeditions, Foundations, Connections, SOAR, and then ultimately attend the college of your choice.

  • Can parents/guardians participate in Xpeditions?

Yes! There will be workshops designed to help inform and assist parents/guardians with the college preparation process for their student.  The topics that will be covered are those that students and parents/guardians should be thinking about specifically during the time they are in their respective grade.

        • When is the last day to register for Xpeditions?

We will accept students and parents the day of the event.  We recommend registering before April 24, 2009, so that we can have a more accurate count for food and T-shirts.  If you have any questions, you can contact us - 801.422.3065 or xpeditions@byu.edu.

        • Do I have to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to participate?

No. The focus of these workshops is not religion or religious beliefs.  We will begin and end Xpeditions with prayer, but other than those prayers, we will focus on the stated objectives of the program.

        • How much does it cost to attend Xpeditions?

There is no cost to attend Xpeditions.  It is completely FREE, including all of the workshops during the day and the lunch.  Unfortunately, we are not able to pay for any travel, hotel, or other expenses.

        • I live far away from Provo or even outside of Utah.  Is it worth it for me to attend Xpeditions?
We ant you to attend, but please consider that this is a half-day program.  Does the benefit you would receive from the program justify the distance you would have to travel and any associated costs?  That is for you to determine.  Unfortunately, we are not able to pay for any travel, hotel, or other expenses.  In the event that you choose to not attend, we would be happy to send you any materials from the event and will continue to invite you to future activities and events.

        • My parents/guardians want to attend, but English is not their first language.  Can they still participate?

Yes.  Everyone is invited.  The workshops will be held in English.  Please contact us for information about a specific language other than English, and the availability of translation services.  We will try to accommodate you the best that we can.

        • I have younger children that will be coming with me.  Do you have any children care services available to take care of them?

No.  we will not be responsible for the supervision or safety of non-participant children.

        • I have had problems submitting my registration online. Can I get a hard copy of the application?

        • What if I registered for Xpeditions and now I have a conflict and am unable to attend?
