Freshman Foothold Mentor

    Thank you for your interest in being a Freshman Foothold Mentor!

    The following is a description of the responsibilities:

  • You will be assigned to up to 5 multicultural freshmen who request a peer mentor.
  • You will not be required to meet with your students at a scheduled time. Rather, we hope that you will meet with them as needed and ultimately, we hope that you will build a relationship of trust with your mentees.
  • You will serve as a senior member of the Freshman Foothold Council. Together with 12 appointed freshmen officers and 3 additional mentors, the council will meet once a month to plan upcoming FF events and evaluate past FF events.
  • Your attendance at the actual events is optional.

    Your role as a peer mentor and as a member of the council is invaluable and you will contribute in incredible ways.

    You will be a pivotal influence to multicultural freshmen as they learn the ropes of college life.
    Your example will help to shape your mentees' college experiences and lives.

    You, too, will grow as you serve your fellow students and your own college experience will be enhanced.

Council Time Commitment
4 upperclassmen will serve as Freshman Foothold Mentors. Mentors will be senior members of the Freshman Foothold Council. Together the council will meet monthly to plan and evaluate future and past events. These meetings will last one hour, time and place to be set. Your attendance at the actual events is encouraged but optional. Is this a commitment that you can make? If not, in what other ways can you meet the time commitments of being a Freshman Foothold Mentor?
Mentor Time Commitment
As freshmen students request mentors, you will be assigned to specific students. Though you will not have a required time commitment in meeting with your mentees, you will be expected to stand as a support and positive example to your assigned students. Describe the specific ways in which you see yourself supporting your freshmen mentees.
